How to read these rankings
- Shows: one row per athlete for the selected event and year, ranked by season’s best or by Elo rating.
- Does not show: an official World Athletics ranking or a guaranteed complete top list.
- Coverage: our imported archive; in wind-sensitive events, wind-checked keeps only marks with a recorded legal wind.
All years shows each athlete once across the available archive: their best mark and highest annual Elo snapshot, which may come from different seasons. The current year's snapshot is its latest available rating, not a completed season. This is not a complete lifetime personal-best list or the peak rating across every race. Country and region filters apply to the affiliation recorded in each season; the displayed name and affiliation come from the latest matching season.
One row per athlete in each exact event, category and year. Season’s best is the best mark in the imported archive, not a guaranteed complete World Athletics top list. Events retain their official names, including Short Track where supplied. Junior implements and hurdle heights remain separate. Official split times can count towards a season’s best and are labelled beside the meeting.
Elo uses head-to-head placings from separately identified races. Heats, semifinals and finals update independently; split times and contradictory source placings do not create rating updates. The displayed value is the last recorded rating in the selected year, with no later-year results included. Only athletes with a recorded appearance that year are shown. Missing ratings remain blank. Elo is not an official World Athletics ranking.
Wind-checked requires a recorded wind of +2.0 m/s or less for 100m, 200m, 100/110m hurdles, long jump and triple jump. Marks without wind readings are excluded in those events, including indoor marks without a distinguishable setting. “All valid marks” includes unknown and excessive wind, flagged in the table. The wind filter changes marks, not Elo.
Both ranks use the selected region and country; tied marks or exact ratings share a rank. Name searches retain those ranks. Country reflects the athlete’s latest recorded affiliation in that event and year. Regions use the sporting-area grouping; other and neutral affiliations remain available under World.
Sparklines beside each season’s best and Elo rating show the athlete’s recorded marks or Elo updates race by race across the selected year (or all years), drawn so that up is always better. Their colour follows a linear trend over at least four points: green improving, red declining, grey stable or too few points. Wind-sensitive events use only wind-legal marks, whatever the wind filter. Cross-country marks are not charted.
Relays and component events within combined competitions are excluded. Cross-country is available by Elo only because courses are not directly comparable. These lists do not apply championship entry quotas or age eligibility rules.
