Method, coverage and limitations

This planner covers outdoor individual track events and all eight field events: high jump, pole vault, long jump, triple jump, shot put, discus, hammer and javelin. Throws use senior implements only. Senior men’s decathlon, women’s heptathlon, selected road distances and race walks are also available. Indoor events and relays are excluded. Road coverage is limited and no course certification or unchanged course layout is implied. Only exact event and gender matches are compared. Historical results are final performances, with one best final mark per athlete, meeting and day. Combined-event components, official splits, invalid marks and future results are excluded. Wind-sensitive sprints, hurdles, long jump and triple jump require recorded wind of +2.0 m/s or less.

Lower times are better in track events; higher distances and heights are better in field events, and higher points are better in combined events. Field marks use metres; combined totals use whole points; longer races accept hours:minutes:seconds. Within 1% means no more than 1% slower on the track or 1% below the prior field mark or points total, including improvements.

Prior SB is the best eligible result recorded in that calendar year before the athlete's first appearance at the meeting. Results from the same meeting, the same day, later in the season and earlier years cannot establish this baseline. At least two earlier competition dates are required. This is an archive best, not a verified complete season best or lifetime PB.

With a current SB entered, comparable athletes have a prior SB within the chosen percentage of that mark. Without one, all eligible athletes are used. Target mark only measures how many observed performances met that target; it is not a predicted placing. Peer mark range is the 25th to 75th percentile of those performances.

Heatmap cells pool the same recorded venue and calendar month, across the selected seasons and categories. A cell needs the selected number of performances, at least five distinct athletes and two distinct meetings. The shortlist uses a conservative sample-size adjustment to the observed rate (Wilson lower-bound formula) as an ordering heuristic, not an athlete-level probability. Repeat athletes, selective fields and incomplete coverage limit inference. The quadrant shows the most frequently observed category in each sample; details retain all category counts.

High performance rates do not prove that a venue causes better performances. Weather, pacing, altitude, travel, form, entry acceptance and competition conditions are not controlled for. Dates and categories can change. Upcoming meetings require a published matching event/gender programme. Historical evidence is linked only by an exact normalized venue/country match and the same month; it is not a claim about that future meeting's field or category.
